MIDAS Geotechnical Technical Seminar in Romania
Innovative Way of Performing Geotechnical Design
using Numerical Analysis
MIDAS IT organizes the technical seminar for geotechnical engineers in Romania. During this seminar, you will be able to obtain the useful knowledge and the new insight of the numerical analysis for the geotechnical design. All participants can get the opportunity for hearing the valuable technical lectures from the experts, and can get the hands-on experience of 2D and 3D analysis with midas GTS NX.

Introduction about the Seminar and MIDAS IT by Christoper CHOI
14:40 – 14:50
Opening Speech
by Prof. Loretta BATALI (President of SRGF)
14:50 – 15:20
Modelling of precast wedge foundations using midas GTS NX
by Adrian CIUTINA and Morovan RAUL (presentation in Romanian)
Precast wedge foundations could be considered as ‘quick foundation systems’ in case of light structures which should be rapidly installed. Based on an experimental basis on specimens subjected to axial compression, the FE simulations will allow a validation of the FE Models using midas GTS NX.
15:20 – 15:50
Numerical analysis and monitoring of a dual cell circular shaft adopted for a 19.5m deep excavation
by Cristian RADU (presentation in Romanian)
FREELO is the first entertainment resort in Romania to host an indoor skydiving wind tunnel, comprised of a 20m high superstructure and an underground structure, laid at a depth of 19.50m below natural ground level. The FREELO project is unique in the context of Romanian geotechnical engineering due to the limitations and constraints encountered during the project’s evolution.
15:50 – 16:20
Comparison between 2D and 3D tunneling analysis using different model types for the ground
by Camilla Di MEGLIO / Barbara FIORENTINO
The tunnel excavation represents a 3D problem. However, the 2D modelling, with its reduced computation times and relative simplicity, is the most common tool in current practice. Among the various methods available, 2D analysis, combined with the Convergence-Confinement method, is the most used. Anyway, in some cases, the 3D approach is necessary to optimize and verify the geometry and construction methods.

Advanced geometry modelling and optimum meshing technology in midas GTS NX
by Jake JEONG
GTS NX has been built on a widely known 64-bit kernel and supports large-size geometries by using efficient tools for advanced geometrical operations. One can reduce model size via Hybrid Mesher, but assure accuracy. It can bring geotechnical modelling on direct mesh level modelling.
