Summary of Session
The presentation gave a brief introduction to the bridge replacement and the design basis for the replacement. It will also cover the rational for the different models used in the analysis and the various features that MIDAS Civil offers that helps aid the designer in both modeling a bridge as well as extracting useful information from the analysis. Several of the models will be compared with one another to see how well different behaviors are captured under different loading conditions.

Project Information
Umauma Stream Bridge
- Replacement of historic steel girder trestle bridge on the Big Island of Hawaii.
- Steel plate girder bridge to replace riveted steel plate girder bridge from 1910.
- Originally 281’ long, 6 simple spans. Replaced with 281’ long, continuous 3 span.
- Utilized GRS backfill, Friction Pendulum Bearings, and Precast Concrete deck with UHPC.
Key Points
Multiple models were created to capture/compare results for differing load conditions:
AASHTO LRFD Strength 1
- Static Load (DC,DW, etc.)
- Moving Load Analysis
- Temperature Load
AASHTO LRFD Extreme 1
- Response Spectrum Analysis
