AASHTO LRFD Steel Composite Design for Curved Plate Girder Bridges

Author: Arun Sharma
Publish Date: 18 Feb, 2021
Detail of this Session
In this session we will cover the design check for a two span curved plate girder ramp as per AASHTO LRFD 2012. One project will be modeled using three different methodologies to simulate composite action, and then design check will be performed for each methodology.
Three different methodologies namely, using modular ratio only, using modular ratio with construction staging, and using time dependent material properties of concrete with construction staging, will be discussed. The emphasis will be on highlighting the pros and cons of using these approaches so that designers can create numerical models accordingly.
Attendees will learn:
- Three methodologies for simulating composite actions
- Benefits of each methodology
- Preparing numerical models for curved plate girders
- Curved plate girder design checks as per AASHTO LRFD 2012
